Reclassification and BEST Award Ceremony
Congratulations to all our Romoland School District students who reclassified this year! Over 80 students were honored from each of our schools at our annual English Learner Reclassification and B.E.S.T. Award Recognition Ceremony. Balancing academic studies with language acquisition is no small feat, and we couldn't be prouder of our students and their families for the collaborative effort.
Understanding English Learners:
When students start their educational journey with a primary language other than English, they fall under the category of English Learners. These students undergo language proficiency assessments to gauge their grasp of English, repeating the assessment annually until they achieve reclassification. Some students begin with minimal English proficiency, while others possess varying levels of comprehension. Learn more about our English Learner Program here: https://www.romoland.net/Page/229
The Reclassification Process:
Annually, English Learners undertake the ELPAC (English Language Proficiency Assessments for California). Between these yearly assessments, students diligently enhance their English vocabulary, grammar, and writing skills. The speaking component of the test emphasizes communication proficiency and preparedness.
Let's applaud the remarkable achievements of our reclassified students as they continue to thrive academically and linguistically in the Romoland School District!
In addition to recognizing our students, the Bilingual Educators Succeeding Together, also known as the B.E.S.T. Awards, honors district and countywide employees for their unparalleled support in the advancement of academic achievement for English Learners. Congratulations to our community members who were recognized as the 2023-2024 BEST Award recipients!
