Romoland Early Childhood Education Staff Spotlight
The State Preschool Teachers in Romoland School District are some of the most dedicated teachers around! We are thrilled to spotlight Ms. Zulet Contreras, Ms. Deisi Varela, and Ms. Lacey Romeyn. These teachers teach State Preschool students at Boulder Ridge, Harvest Valley, and Romoland Elementary. They have each been instrumental to developing the rigorous, individualized virtual instructional program that we are currently operating in.
These educators are not only addressing the pre-academic skills required for school readiness, but they make mental and emotional wellness a priority. Our State Preschool teachers have developed routines with students and families that are culturally responsive and supportive of the individual needs of each child and family.
Over the school closures and summer break, our State Preschool teachers embraced our new learning platform. They did this by contributing to weekly discussions and participating in the Early Childhood Education (ECE) department task force for reopening. The idea was to bring the classroom to their students. ECE educators developed a roadmap to equip families with the tools that are used in the classroom.
Through individualized weekly family check-ins, the State Preschool Teachers discuss the progress of student goals with their parent/guardian, collect observational materials from families, discuss a plan for next week’s learning, and most importantly, develop relationships. This is done in between virtual teaching, lesson planning, distributing materials every other week, while working through the unknowns that technology sometimes throws their way.
We are so proud and grateful to have these teachers on the Romoland Early Childhood team!
