Google Workspace for Education is an integrated communication and collaboration solution that Google offers to schools and educational institutions at no cost. It provides Romoland students and staff with a secure online environment to communicate, store files, and collaborate on documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. All of these applications exists completely online (or in the cloud), meaning that staff and students can be access their apps and data from anywhere, using any device with an Internet connection.

Romoland School District takes security and privacy of student information very seriously. Google Workspace at Romoland is only accessible to our staff and students, and students are only able to use Google Workspace's communication tools to interact with other Romoland students and teachers. Google Workspace for Education complies with all legal requirements for safety and security such as the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Google does not sell or share personal information or data with third-parties, and there are no ads in Google Workspace's core services. Romoland School District has established a data privacy agreement with Google to protect our students' data and keep it private for the use of these core services. However, there are other Google apps that are used in our classrooms to support student instruction that fall outside of this agreement, and parents/guardians must provide opt-in consent for students to use these tools with their district-provided Google accounts. The programs are listed below along with a brief description of how they are used by students.
- Applied Digital Skills - provides students with online lessons to learn practical digital skills
- Chrome Web Store & Google Play - allows students to install instructional apps and extensions used in classrooms. Students are only able to install apps that have been pre-approved by the district (for example, Khan Academy to support math concepts)
- CS First - computer science & coding lessons
- Google Bookmarks - make bookmarks/favorites of frequently visited websites
- Google Books - provides access to a library of free eBooks to improve reading skills
- Google Earth/Google Maps - students can view geographic locations around the globe. Used for social studies, history, and writing lessons.
- Google Photos - allows students to save images and easily insert them into school projects, such as presentations created with Google Slides
- YouTube - used heavily by teachers in all grade levels to support teacher instruction with read alouds, phonics videos, math examples, science experiments, history, and other subjects. Videos may also be embedded in Google Classroom assignments and activities in other programs such as EdPuzzle. Student accounts are forced to use YouTube's restricted mode which screens out potentially inappropriate content.
