With the increasing popularity of electric bicycles (E-Bikes) among students and the community, Romoland School District is excited to launch a virtual E-Bike safety training program. This initiative aims to educate students, parents, and community members on the safe and responsible use of E-Bikes while ensuring compliance with state laws and best practices.
On August 15, 2022, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill (AB) 1946 into law, requiring the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to develop a statewide safety and training program for E-Bike users. This training is based on evidence-based practices and covers essential topics such as:
- General E-Bike Riding Safety
- Emergency Maneuver Skills
- Rules of the Road
- California Laws Pertaining to E-Bikes
Key Lessons in the Training Program
The virtual training includes a series of lessons covering:
- What to Consider When Purchasing an E-Bike – Understanding different classifications, motor capabilities, and legal requirements.
- Basic Skills & Maneuvers – Learning safe riding techniques, emergency braking, and hazard avoidance.
Rules of the Road – California Vehicle Code regulations that apply to E-Bike riders.
Parental Considerations – What parents need to know about their child's riding ability, responsibilities, and safety precautions.
