Romoland School District is proud to recognize Karen Delgado, Bilingual Instructional Aide at Hillside Innovation Academy, as this month’s Shining Star. In just a year and a half with the district, Karen has made a remarkable impact on students, families, and staff through her kindness, dedication, and unwavering support.

Karen is known across campus as someone who always steps in when needed, and always with a smile. HIA Principal, Lilly Ellefsen, describes her as a true team player: dependable, collaborative, and consistently willing to go above and beyond. Whether she’s supporting classroom instruction, helping a student gain confidence, or assisting a family through translation, Karen approaches every task with thoughtfulness and positivity. Her ability to build strong, trusting connections with students and families makes her an invaluable part of the Hillside community.

Karen shared that her favorite part of her role is being able to support both students and parents. She finds joy in helping children grow academically and emotionally, especially those learning English, while also ensuring families feel informed and included. By assisting with translation and communication, she helps strengthen the essential bridge between home and school.

Her work has a powerful impact on the entire school community, helping students feel understood, helping teachers communicate more effectively, and helping families stay connected to their child’s learning. “Every day brings new chances to help, connect, and make a difference,” she says, a sentiment reflected in everything she does.
