Mrs. Lori James

Hello And Welcome To My Page,

My name is Lori. James. My husband, Aaron James, also teaches history. We have been married since October of 2000, and we are still in love...awe!!! We have 6 children, 4 girls and 2 boys. They are all awesome, seriously awesome!  I love anything ocean, anything active, metal detecting, traveling, dark chocolate, and spending time with my family!

I have been teaching at Chase since 2018.  I think this is the best job in the world. Teaching is a second career for me.  I have been a Registered Nurse since 2004. I have a bachelors and masters degree in nursing and have a post baccalaureate credential in Education. Over the course of my years working as a nurse, I came to discover that my favorite part about my career was educating patients about their health and wellness. My ability to do this was always hindered by time constraints and the constant flow of patients, with limited time dedicated to properly provide education.  I took a second job  teaching college level nursing classes, which triggered my love for formally educating and got me thinking about the possibility of teaching full time.  I can’t say why exactly I chose to leave college and teach secondary. I have been involved in youth groups at my church for many years, and through those experiences, have realized that it is this age that really has my heart.

After teaching college for 4 year and nursing for 14, I decided it was time to pursue my secondary teaching certificate, so I could teach at the high school/middle school level. I received my certificate in PE and Health just a couple of years later.  I chose PE because I love sports and activity of any kind. I also love being outdoors. I chose health, well, because of my nursing background.   I have never regretted my decision even for a moment. And just in case you are wondering...I still hold all of my nursing credentials : )

I believe that physical education is an integral part of middle school curriculum. This age is the perfect time for students to start developing positive lifestyle habits. My hope is that I can combine the different aspects and principles of physical education, to create a positive, active, and fun environment where students can develop a joy for staying active.

My goal is to encourage students to be physically active, educate them on “why” they should be physically fit, and help them find a sport/activity/hobby in which they can participate in for a lifetime of enjoyment and health.
