RTA Contract/Negotiations Update
RTA Contract/Negotiations Update
Joint Communication 1/21/2026
The Association and the District met on Thursday, January 15, 2026 and finalized a tentative agreement regarding compensation.
The agreement calls for an increase to our certificated salary schedules of 2.5% effective July 1, 2025 and an additional .25% increase effective the month in which we get Board approval (tentatively February 1, 2026). The agreement also includes an additional one time payment of 2%.
The agreement is currently going through RTA membership for ratification and then to the Board of Education for final approval. This will likely take place at the February 10, 2026 Board meeting.
Pending RTA ratification and Board approval in February, the agreement will be implemented in a phased-in approach with the ongoing increase to the salary schedules being included on the February payroll. The one time payment will then be issued on the March payroll. The final component is the retroactive pay from the beginning of the school year through January 31, 2026 and that will be seen on the April payroll.
The phased-in approach is designed to reduce the impact of federal and state taxes on employee compensation.
In addition to salary, the agreement increases the district contribution to health and welfare benefits by $350 per year for a total contribution of $12,850.
The final component is an improvement to retiree medical benefits. We currently allow for a one time $10,000 contribution for retiree medical benefits. This agreement will now allow for up to $12,500 annually to retiree medical benefits each year after retirement for up to 5 years or until medicare eligibility.
Joint Communication 11/3/2025
During the recent meeting between the Romoland School District Cabinet and Romoland Teachers Association Executive Board we discussed the topic of substitute teacher availability.
Since that meeting we flew a posting for substitute teacher and have interviewed several substitute teacher candidates. Additional interviews have also been scheduled for this week.
We also discussed the scheduling of school related business to reduce the impact on substitute availability.
Joint Communication 10/17/2025
The Romoland School District Cabinet and the Romoland Teachers Association Executive Board met on October 13, 2025, as part of a newly established collaborative group that will meet quarterly throughout the 2025/26 school year. The goal of this group is as follows:
-
GOAL: “Foster a collaborative partnership between the District and RTA that supports both staff and student success, while maintaining fiscal solvency for the long-term benefits of all.”
In our first meeting together, we were able to:
-
Establish working norms for the group that will help guide individual and group behaviors to aid the group in achieving its goal.
-
Engage in a “Trust” activity outlining specific attributes that foster trust among people and organizations.
-
Conduct a listening session on the challenge related to certificated substitutes vacancies. Valuable input was provided from both the RTA Executive Board and the RSD Cabinet level. There will be a joint communication on this topic coming out soon.
Both groups found the day to be productive and positive, and look forward to our future time together.

Negotiations Update
The District and Association finalized adjustments to article 17 of the collective bargaining agreement which addresses the topic of safety. The updated language addresses staff safety as it relates to student suspensions and appropriate responses to dangerous students.
Possible Involuntary Transfers
We also wanted to provide an update to staff regarding the possibility of an involuntary transfer due to the opening of Granite Hills TK-8 School. The voluntary transfer process will satisfy most of the staffing needs to ensure that we have the necessary staffing at each of our school sites. Over the next few weeks we will contact those staff who may still be impacted by an involuntary transfer to let them know of their current status. This will impact a limited number of the Romoland teaching staff.
